Silhouette support wouldn't help me with this and Lettering Delights didn't even answer my email. Makes me wonder if there was an update that made things worse, not better. I'm really not willing to pay $60+ for a program like MTC or SCAL that will convert files but it is an option for those that want it. I'm hoping Silhouette will make some additions in future updates to allow dxf files to work better in the software. I have no idea why the first sets worked fine for me but the rest have not? I've been working on this for a week now and am ready to give up. I've tried many different suggestions (including trace) and still can't make them stop crashing. I was told in the Silhouette Yahoo group that large file or files with incomplete lines will crash it. The first two sets I bought from LD converted just fine and I've had no problems with them but then I bought several more sets and converted them the same way and they are crashing in the Studio. I can't find anything here or on the internet that tells me anything to help. This isn't working for me! I just downloaded the most current "stable" version of Inkscape, opened and converted the files to DXF ("better dxf output" isn't available and the download referred to above is denied or already exists when following his instructions), but the SVG files I bought from Lettering Delights are not cutting correctly and/or crashing Studio over and over. I enlarge to the right size then save to GSD. I save my DXF from Adobe Illustrator (Mac), but when I Load DXF into Silhouette, it's the size of a thumbnail. Of course, at that point you can also save it as a GSD if you choose. I have no trouble opening all of the layers that way. When I save an SVG file in Inkscape, there is a menu option called "Better DXF Output", so I save it that way, (as the developer says to do) and it opens nicely in Silhouette as a dxf. I downloaded something called "better_dxf_output.zip" from I bought some cute SVG files from Lettering Delights, you have to separate them in Inkscape before saving but it seemed to work. With the help of hubby I finally figured it out :) I am so impressed by how fast they respond to a problem and fix it immediately! They are astonishing! By the next morning, they had emailed me a fix which they say will be out in the next upgrade. There were diagonal lines across the whole work screen and if I clicked on them the program would crash. Some of the conversions we get as freebies from others don't do well in our program and I reported one to the Sil support team. GSD after the file name, it will save that way, though. when you want to save, it doesn't show you GSD as an option in the drop down menu. In the Silhouette Program, open your DXF file. Of course, we can also open DXF files and save them as GSDs. As a newbie, I need my cheat-sheet! You will need Here's what I do: I printed the instructions for conversion on a 4 x 6 card so it is always in front of me. I tried that, I downloaded inkscape and saved the file as dxf but then when I went into the Silouette software couldn't figure out how to save it there as a gsd file? What am I missing? Then you can can open the svg file in it and then save to dxf file and then you can open in the Silhouette software and save as gsd file. Does anyone know how to do this? I searched online and found some instructions but they were from a few years ago and don't seem to work with the current Silhouette software.ĭo a google search for inkskape and download it.
